Blog 3 - Societal Issues

Overall I loved the book. After reading The Hunger games I would have to say it is tied for my favorite book along with The Maze Runner. I enjoyed the book so much that after I finished it I watched the movie and the sequel. The entire book was full of action and it never had a boring moment. My favorite character would have to be Katniss but I liked rue too, she was very mysterious, innocent, and sneaky. I liked how at the end of the games they were going to eat the berries to be rebellious, i noticed this part of the book tying in with the Catching fire movie a lot because of the rebellion and the symbolism of the mocking jay. Overall I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys adventurous or action books.

Blog 2 - Societal Issues

I am really enjoying The Hunger Games so far. The writing style reminds me a lot of The Maze Runner, which is my favorite book. I love the amount of description and the word choice she used while writing The Hunger Games. Currently I am reading about the death of Rue and Katniss covering her body with flowers. I believe the end of the book will be Katniss winning because she is the protagonist. I am worried that she will have to kill Peeta though which I don't want her to do.

Blog 1 - Societal Issues

I am currently reading The Hunger Games and so far I like it. The reading style so far is very simplistic but also very detailed in a way. I was very surprised when Katniss volunteered to go instead of Prim. This shows how much Katniss cares about her family, she explained how she hunts every day to keep her family healthy and well. I like when the author describes the woods where Katniss and Gale hunt and fish, she describes it so well that I picture the nature so peacefully. I think I will really enjoy this book because my favorite book is The Maze Runner and so far the writing style is very similar and I have heard the stories are similar.

Memoir - 3

Overall, I did like the book although I believe it was sort of boring at times. I liked the author's style and the order of events she went in but I think there could have been less detail about them moving state to state all the time and more detail with the events in between. The end of the book was about how they were all in New York. Jeanette, Lori, and Brian all got jobs, but Maureen is sent to a mental facility because she stabbed her mother. During all of this, Jeanettes father dies of a heart attack which causes her to think about her life a lot, she leaves her husband and moves away. The book then skips to about 5 years later on thanksgiving. The family all meet together for thanksgiving dinner and they give a toast to dad. My favorite character was Jeanette because I liked her personality through the book.

Memoir - 2

In The Glass Castle I love the author's writing style. I like how it is an easy read but it is also very detailed. For me, this makes the book very enjoyable because I do not like reading that much but I do if there's a good story behind what I am reading. So far I am enjoying the book, I find what is happening very interesting. For the end of the book, I believe it will end somewhere close to where it started since the book is a flashback. I believe Jeanette will become successful, offer her parents some of her money or to live with her but I think they will deny the offer and continue to live on the streets.

Memoir - 1

If I was to write my own memoir there is not a lot I could write about because I am only 17, but there are a few things I can think of. I would write about my life as a kid and how I have changed over the years. When I was little I was extremely shy. I was always like this no matter where I was unless I was with my friends. Over the years I have grown more mature and I am now a lot less shy than I once was. I would explain times in my life that I have had to go out of my comfort zone and how it helped me become less shy in the long run. I would want the lesson learned in my memoir to be no matter what is holding you back in life there is always a solution and a way to overcome the situation and come out on top in the end.

The entire time I was reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak I was always interested. There was never a time while reading where I did not enjoy the book. I loved the writing style the author has chosen and how he focuses on the relationships between the characters, I felt as if I was close to the characters while reading as with other books they are simply just characters in a book. I also loved the way the story is told from the perspective of death, it really gives you a whole new way to look at things. You would just be reading and a small note would come up reminding you of Death and how he feels about the current event happening in the book and usually it's something you haven't really thought about so it really makes you think. The only part of the book I did not enjoy was how a lot of people died at the end, it was well written and planned out in the the story but I did not want the characters to die because I feel like I connected with them. My favorite character was Liesel because she is really interesting. She has a lot going on in her life with her brother and her mother but she still finds ways to escape and have fun with reading, writing, and playing with friends on the street. Another reason I liked Liesel is because she also has that sneaky kind of characteristic in her, like when she is planning to steal books and when she sneaks into someones library through a window. Overall I really enjoyed The Book Thief and I highly recommend it.
